As we get ready for our New Grand Re-Opening Event on April 11th we thought we’d share some of the new and exciting things that DFC is celebrating! As we prepared to remodel our showroom, we knew it was time for a Front Desk Makeover! If you’ve shopped with us prior to this year’s big remodel, you may remember our old, beat up, wooden front desks and registers. They had been in the same spot for years and we also thought, along with a makeover, it would be nice to even relocate to an area more towards the front of the store. The vision for the new and improved front desk registers could be summed up in a couple of words: UPCYCLED and REPURPOSED! That was the overall look for the entire store, so why shouldn’t our front desk follow suit. Take a look at this Front Desk Upcyle and the story it has to tell…
In our last blog post, about our new logo, we talked about our appreciation for the past and wanting to feel connected to memories and our roots. That is definitely what we were trying to do when thinking about the design of our front desk. The new design keeps in line with the look and feel of our new product and store design, but it also ties our past with our future with the use of the same desk we have always had.
“Every piece has a story or meaning…” That is what we’ve said about our new line of product and the same can be said about our newly upcylced front desk using reclaimed wood.
There was nothing wrong with the front desk we had, when it came to its functionality. Basically, it was just old and beat up looking and just didn’t go with the direction we were taking the design of the showroom. So we decided to upcycle using reclaimed wood. The wood is where the desk gets its story and meaning from. The reclaimed wood came from a fence that Mae and Barney tore down in their yard at home. So as the store grows and time passes, this front desk will forever tell a story about the family business.
The tops of the upcycled front desks are custom designed and made by Tom Alandt of Central Cal Metals, another local family owned and operated business. It came out just as we had envisioned it! Thanks so much Tom!
