Last week, we asked our Facebook friends to help us name our friend that hangs out over our front desk. The suggestion with the most likes was the name we decided to go with!
So we’d like to introduce everyone to Ferdinand!
Big thanks to our Facebook friend, Marsha Horner! She came up with the most liked name and told us about
The Story of Ferdinand
The Story of Ferdinand is a children’s book by Munro Leaf, from 1936. Ferdinand was a bull that would rather smell flowers than fight in bullfights. All the other bulls would run and butt heads, but despite his fierce looks Ferdinand liked to just sit quietly and smell the flowers. The book was made into a animated short film by Disney in 1938, which won an Oscar. Ferdinand is still referenced today, most recognizably in the movie The Blindside. Michael Oher, of which the movie is based on, is seen as big and intimidating, but when he first gets on the football field he has a hard time putting his gentle nature aside for the game; that is, except when it comes to protecting people. This makes Sandra Bullock’s character think of The Story of Ferdinand.

We’d like to think of our Ferdinand in the same way. He looks out for his family, our store, and just loves to smell the lovely flowers all day long.
And while you’re at DFC meet some of Ferdinand’s friends from around the showroom…
